My passion for mushroom farming stems from my values of healthy eating, promoting environmentally friendly type of farming, reducing the negative impact of climate change and contributing to food security. Mushrooms are a highly nutritious food. In this day and age where so many non-communicable diseases arise from poor nutrition, mushrooms provide numerous health benefits including lowering bad cholesterol, promoting heart health and contains vitamins such as B3. Another reason for mushroom farming especially in Zambia is the seasonality of mushrooms in the country which are only available during the rainy season coupled with the huge potential of the growth of the mushroom industry.
